Checking and Replacing Fuses

The fuses in your vehicle serve to close down faulty circuits. If a fuse blows, all the components on the circuit and their functions stop operating. If a fuse has blown, the inside element will be melted. Blown fuses must be replaced with fuses of the same rating, which you can recognize by the color and value.

The fuse allocation chart is located in the vehicle tool kit in the storage compartment under the trunk floor.

If a newly inserted fuse also blows, have the cause traced and rectified at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Notice

  • Before changing a fuse: secure the vehicle against rolling away, remove the SmartKey from the ignition lock, and switch off all electrical consumers.
  • Always disconnect the battery before servicing high current fuses.
  • Always replace faulty fuses with the specified new fuses having the correct amperage. If you manipulate or bridge a faulty fuse or if you replace it with a fuse with a higher amperage, the electric cables could be overloaded. This could result in a fire. There is a risk of an accident and injury.
  • Only use fuses that have been approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles and which have the correct fuse rating for the system concerned. Only use fuses marked with an “S”. Otherwise, components or systems could be damaged.

Instrument Panel Fuse Box

It is located on the driver’s side of the dashboard.

Instrument Panel Fuse Box Location

  • To open: pull out cover (1) slightly at the bottom in the direction of the arrow (3). Do not use a pointed object such as a screwdriver to open the cover in the dashboard. You could damage the dashboard or the cover.
  • Pull cover (1) outwards in the direction of the arrow (2) and remove it.
  • To close: clip in cover (1) on the front of the dashboard.
  • Fold cover (1) inwards until it engages.

Engine Compartment Fuse Box

The fuse box is located on the left-hand side of the vehicle, when viewed in the direction of travel.

Make sure that the windshield wipers are switched off and that the SmartKey is removed from the ignition lock before you open the cover of the fuse box. Otherwise, the windshield wipers and the wiper rods above the cover could be set in motion. This could lead to you or others being injured by the wiper rods.

Engine Compartment Fuse Box Location

  • Open the hood.
  • Remove any existing moisture from the fuse box using a dry cloth.
  • Take lines (2) from the guides.
  • To open: open clamps (1).
  • Remove the fuse box cover forwards.

!!! Make sure that no moisture can enter the fuse box when the cover is open.

  • To close: check whether the rubber seal is lying correctly in the cover.
  • Insert the cover at the rear of the fuse box into the retainer.
  • Fold-down the cover and close clamps (1).
  • Secure lines (2) in the guides.

!!! The cover must be seated properly, otherwise, moisture or dirt could impair the function of the fuses.

  • Close the hood.
