Checking and Replacing Fuses

If an electrical device fails, switch it off and check the fuse. If the fuse is burned through (the metal wire will have melted and separated), replace it with a new fuse of the same ampere rating. A pair of plastic tweezers and instructions for fuse allocation is stored with the fuses in the cargo bay.

Warning!

  • Incorrect and repaired fuses can overload electrical lines and components. There is a risk of fire. Never attempt to repair a blown fuse and do not replace a nonworking fuse with a substitute of another color or amperage rating.
  • If the fuse continues to burn through, refer the problem to a BMW Retailer for repair.

Petrol Engines:

  • N54B30 – 3.0L (xDrive35i)

  • N63B44 – 4.4L (xDrive50i, ActiveHybrid X6)
  • S63B44 – 4.4lL (X6 M)

Diesel Engines:

The fuses are located in the front passenger footwell on the underside of the instrument cluster.

To access:

  1. Unscrew screws of footwell trim panel.
  2. Lay the trim panel in the footwell.
  3. Release the screw, arrow 1, and fold the fuse carrier down, arrow 2.
  4. Replace the fuse concerned.
  5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Ensure correct and secure attachment of the footwell trim panel in the process.
